Collymore had a productive career with the Lions of Lac Saint-Louis in the Midget AAA category, and then in the Quebec Major Junior league with the Remparts of Quebec and the Foreurs of Val d'Or. After his second season with the Remparts, he was selected at the 139e level (5th round) by the New York Rangers during the 2001 draft. During the following season, he became captain of the Remparts before completing his junior stage with Val d'Or in 2004.

Switchback career with the pros

Not having a contract with the Rangers, Collymore took part in a recruits camp of the Detroit Red Wings. He began his professional career with the Storm of Toledo in the East Coast League (ECHL) in 2004-2005. He played for a season in the United League with the Trashers of Danbury where he scored 23 goals and accumulated 26 passes before returning to the ECHL with the Royals of Reading. Last season, he divided his time between Reading and the Bears of Hershey and with the Admirals of Norfolk in the American League.

Shawn Collymore has made the decision to head for Europe for a year to join the Stavanger team in Norway, which is the team that has evolved the most in the strongest division of this Scandinavian country. Founded in 2001, the team has several players coming from neighbouring country Finland. The Oilers have progressed rapidly, winning honours in Division 2 in 2002 and in Division 1 in 2003.
