During the surprise visit of police officers, Flotveline Jean-Louis, 20 years old, and her husband Casy Pierre Mesidor, 26 years old, tried to hide under a mattress but they were found immediately. For several months now, the two have been on Quebec’s list of 10 most wanted criminals.
On the morning of February 16, 2008, ambulance officers were called to an apartment on Airlie Street in LaSalle where the couple had been living since November 1, 2007. The nine-month old baby was suffering from several fractures, cerebral hemorrhage and bruises. In respiratory distress, the rescue team rushed the baby to the Children’s Montreal Hospital. It looked like the child was either beaten or was suffering from shaken baby syndrome. The baby died in the hospital some ten days later.
Both suspects are originally from Haiti, and they disappeared from Montreal after the incident – an escapade that lasted nine months.
