Tribute to Father Giuseppe De Rossi
Passed away on April 4
It was with great sadness that LaSalle residents heard of the passing of missionary Giuseppe de Rossi from the Order of the Scalabriniani Brothers, on April 4.
The LaSalle borough adopted a resolution to convey their condolences to the entire Italian community of LaSalle and the Order of the Scalabriniani Brothers.
Councillor Alvaro Farinacci stated that since his arrival in Quebec in 1964, Father De Rossi has devoted his entire life as a missionary to LaSalle's and Lachine's Italian community.
Mr. Farinacci reminded everyone that it was Father Giuseppe De Rossi who succeeded in raising donations and acquiring land for the construction of the very first Italian church in LaSalle, on Thierry Street. In 1973, Curé-de-Rossi Street was named in honour of this great man, following a resolution presented by former mayor Gérald Raymond and seconded by former councillor John Campbell.
