Michael Wou in Tanzania for 100km HIV/AIDS Solidarity March
This coming July, LaSalle resident Michael Wou will journeying to the Makete region, in Tanzania (Africa), in order to participate in a 100km Solidarity March. He will be walking side by side with five other Canadians and about 100 HIV+ Tanzanians.
Over five days, Tanzanian and Canadian marchers will carry the group's message to isolated villages across the mountains. Awareness events and testing clinics will be part of the March at every stop. The people at these villages are poor, even by Tanzanian standards, and afflicted by the worst prevalence of HIV and AIDS in their country. One in five adults have the disease and there are estimated to already be at least 15,000 orphans in a district of 100,000 people.
$30,000 and six laptop computers
Michael Wou has set as a goal to raise $30,000 and six new or used laptop computers. The laptops will be used for HIV awareness presentations, and since most villages have no electricity, extra batteries for the laptops would be appreciated. The money will be donated to three clinics, to be used towards testing, treatment, operating a mobile clinic, and awareness programs. Those interested in helping out, can make a contribution before June 15. You can send your cheques to McGill Nurses for Highlands Hope, c/o Professor Madeleine Buck, McGill University School of Nursing, Wilson Hall, 3506 University Street, Montreal, Quebec, H3A-2A7. Laptop computers can be dropped before June 30, at Michael Wou's office, at: Origami Tactical Creativity and Branding, 1452 Saint Mathieu Street Montreal, PQ, H3H-2H9.
