Work on Latour Bridge has commenced!
Sammy Forcillo, from the City of Montreal, and LaSalle borough mayor, Manon Barbe, have confirmed the start of repair work on Latour Bridge and its access via Dollard Avenue.
"The Latour Bridge was built in 1921. The new bridge will be larger and have four traffic lanes, a sidewalk and a new cycling path," explained Sammy Forcillo.
Demolition and reconstruction work on the Latour Bridge has been evaluated at $6.6 M. The Tremblay-Zampino administration has put aside $3.2 M for the work on Dollard Avenue, between de la Verendrye and Salley streets, in order to correct the misalignment with the bridge. "We will be modernizing the aqueduct network and the neighbourhood sewer system, by constructing a main aqueduct and a rainwater sewer under Dollard Avenue, as well as a secondary aqueduct under Terrasse Champlain," added Mr. Forcillo.
Mayor Barbe is pleased. "I have been committed to rebuilding Latour Bridge and have worked on this for years, and it's finally becoming a reality. This bridge is a key transportation point in LaSalle and the results will facilitate the comings and goings of all LaSalle residents. An extra lane will facilitate traffic and the sidewalk and the cycling path will also be a much needed improvement."
Most of the work will be taking place starting now until December 2007. They will be suspended and work will commence again in May 2008.
