The Hellenic Community of Montreal, in collaboration with the Greek Orthodox Community of Laval and under the auspices of the Canadian Hellenic Congress, have issued an appeal for donations to help victims of fires raging in Greece.
"The news footage of Greek families left homeless or hurt and the loss of life that has resulted from forest fires that have ravaged the Peloponnese and other regions of Greece have shocked and saddened us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of this tragedy", said John Theodosopoulos, President of the Hellenic Community of Montreal. "Many of us have family members in the areas affected and all of us have roots in a land that today, is calling for our help" added Spiros Roumbas, President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Laval.
A special bank account has been set up with Scotiabank at their Jean Talon branch (Account Number 63081 0151610) to receive donations from those willing to help. In addition, donations can be made online at
