Tree cutting along the Lachine Canal

Parks Canada inform the public that it will proceed to fell about fifty trees, mainly located along St-Patrick Street, between the Charlevoix Bridge and the St-Pierre Interchange, for public safety reasons and to insure the health of the plant cover.

Planted in the late 1970s, the Lombardy Poplars of the Lachine Canal are suffering from premature aging due to environmental stress such as air pollution and the propagation of diseases and parasites.

The second phase of the Lachine Canal revitalization project outlines a landscaping plan that remains faithful to the historical character of the site while taking account of its recreational and tourist potential.
