Marcus Tabaschnick Acclaimed; Commissioners Sworn In
The Lester B.Pearson School Board held their first meeting last Monday under the newly elected Council of Commissioners. It was a quick meeting in order to swear in the new council and to elect the key executive positions.
Chairman Marcus Tabachnick, who the held the post for nine years, was re-elected by acclamation. It would seem there was going to be any challenge to the top post based on recent public statements, needless to say, they did not materialize, though it might be an interesting 4 years.
During the evening, Mr. Tabachnick expressed his appreciation to his fellow council members for their support and confidence. “By standing for election we have made a commitment to our communities, to our students and learners of all ages, to our more than 3500 staff members and to this Council of Commissioners”, said Mr. Tabachnick. “The next 4 years will see new and different challenges and with every challenge faced, we must never forget that every decision made must be focused on student success”, continued the Board Chairman.
Sylvia DiDonato was also re-elected as Vice-Chair, and the members of the Executive Committee were also elected last Monday.
A look at the top posts and the members of the executive committee also brings a troubling sign to the southwest electorate of LaSalle and Verdun as none of the region’s local commissioners were elected, as they all went to commissioners from the centre of the West Island. You can check out the full slate of names on the Board’s website.
