LaSalle supports construction project for new Planetarium in Olympic Park site
LaSalle Borough officials support the resolution adopted by the Rosemont –La Petite-Patrie council for the construction of a new Planetarium in the Olympic Park site.
The support resolution filed by Mayor Manon Barbe highlights the disuse of the building; the teams of the present Planetarium say that the Planetarium can no longer adequately satisfy the expectations of its clients. She reminded the audience of the major costs required - $20M - for the restoration of the present Planetarium.
Both internal and external studies indicate that in the last 10 years, the relocation of the Planetarium close to three other museums (Biodôme, Insectarium and Botanical Garden) would create a potentially strong synergy for revitalisation not only for the nature museums but also for the Maisonneuve Pole area.
The Montreal Nature Museums Foundation succeeded in obtaining a contribution of $4M from Alcan for the construction of a new Planetarium. The resolution stipulates that the establishment of a new Planetarium in the Olympic Park site constitutes a structuring project within the economic and social plan for the east of Montreal and surrounding boroughs.
