Residents Must Work Hand in Hand with the Borough
For efficient snow clearance
Since Tuesday morning, some one hundred workers have moved into action to clear the 35 cm of snow that fell on Monday. To restore your access to at least one side of the street as fast as possible, the crews cleared the streets quickly as a first step; however, due to the heavy snowfall and some equipment breakdowns, they will have to continue their work on Saturday and even into the beginning of next week.
Our crews encountered many obstacles. A number of snowblower breakdowns were caused by objects such as logs, cement blocks, pieces of metal, etc., that were pushed into the street by private contractors in clearing the snow from driveways. These objects cause breakdowns, not only because parts have to be replaced, but also because during that time, the rest of the crew has to wait, as they can't do anything without the snowblower.
5 musts for residents wanting fast snow clearance
1) Obey the no-parking signs, even on Saturdays, and move your vehicle in good time. 2) Remove the snow from your driveway before the snowblower passes by. 3) Keep your garbage cans and your Blue Box on your own property. 4) Park 30 cm from the sidewalk to make it easier for the sidewalk cleaners to pass through. 5) If you are fortunate to have a driveway, park there instead of on the street.
