Theodora: young lady with success in her wings!
Model student and accomplished athlete signs contract with Point Zero
Even if she’s only 13 years old, Theodora Karkavilas is looking forward to a future that’s more than promising. A model student and an accomplished athlete who has collected medals and trophies, she has just gotten her break into the world of fashion and casting.
The young lady won a national artistic competition. She signed a lucrative modeling contract with clothing company Point Zero for their brochure Spring-Summer Collection for Kids 2008
A native of LaSalle, Theodora is the daughter of Kosta and Vas Karkavilas, owners of Dépanneur Kosta, corner of Stirling Street and LaSalle Boulevard. She has a brother George (14 years old), and her mother (Vas) is a secretary at the Greek Orthodox Community, south west region. Her grandparents, George and Theodora, live in Rancourt Street.
Auditions from Montreal
Early in 2007 Theodora Karkavilas tried her chance at the competition Model Talent Search Canada which is held once a year across the country. The first phase involved auditions in February at the Hilton Hotel in Dorval. She was given a script to memorise. She had to recite her lines while modeling and was judged on the basis of her appearance, her presentation, and her manner of expressing herself, etc. She made it to the top 12 candidates who were selected to compete in the finals in Toronto.
Toronto finals
The final competition brought together 200 young people from the country who converged in the Sheraton Hotel in Toronto on April 13, 2007. An intimidating challenge for a young girl of 13 who had to model in front of modeling and casting agencies from all over North America.
Theodora received the script from an advertising text which she had to memorise and “act out” in a convincing manner. She impressed the audience in the fashion show, won first place and received a certificate of participation. She was approached by eight agencies on site, of which two were from Hollywood, one from Vancouver, three from Toronto and two from Montreal.
The great adventure
In October 2007, the firm Sybille Sasse offered her an auditioning opportunity for the Point Zero clothing chain. Theodora went to the company on Chabanel Street, wore some clothes and modeled. She signed a contract and was sent to a studio, where she had a photo session; they took 500 shots of her for the Spring-Summer Collection for Kids 2008 brochure published in January and available in Canada, in the US and in Europe. She was also recruited by Zellers to pose for photos that should be published in April.
Future veterinarian
Theodora Karkavilas is in secondary school 1 at Verdun’s Beurling Academy. Her father Kosta, who is more than proud of his daughter, said: “She keeps both feet on the ground and certainly doesn’t act like a princess. Her biggest dream is to become a veterinarian. We have fish, a frog, a black rabbit, a turtle, a bird and a dog. For my wife and I, she is a source of great pride. We have two wonderful and incredible children.”
