One step closer to Peking for Willows and his partner

Kayaker Andrew Willows of LaSalle and his partner Richard Dober are one step closer towards achieving qualification for the Olympics in the K-2 500 metre and K-2 1000 metre categories.They dominated the two Canadian trial selections that took place in Lake Lanier in Georgia.

In the K-2 500 metre category, Willows and Dober came ahead of their closest opponents by three seconds. Before they can represent the country in this competition, the two Quebec kayakers have to prove that they are the best team in two out of three competitions designated by the Canadian association. Last Sunday’s test was the first of the three competitions. Willows and Dober only have to repeat the same victory in one more out of the two remaining World Cups to qualify for the Olympic delegation. Willows and Dober will also be able to represent Canada in the continental Olympic qualification for canoeing and kayaking in the K-2 100 metre category which will take place in Montreal in two weeks. They won in the Canadian trial selection in Lake Lanier, Georgia. They came up ahead of their closest opponents by 1.394 seconds.
