Beautiful visit to parc des Rapides
Family of foxes and small deer
Parc des Rapides is a natural park that sometimes holds very pleasant surprises for visitors. In April, a family of foxes and some small deer have sought refuge in the park, especially in the willow bush.
The family of foxes settled in the willow bush but certain conditions forced the animals to transfer temporarily to a more tranquil corner near the site of the Knights of Columbus. They stayed in the willow bush until young park visitors started to run after them, so the fox and his offspring were forced to leave their spot.
As of the last count, there were eight cubs and three foxes, but it could be that there were two different families for some time around the Knights of Columbus site. Some persons know where they are now but are keeping that a secret.
Lovers of nature had the opportunity to take pictures of three fox families in the last two years. The blame goes to those park visitors who like to take photos or impress their children by getting too near the animals and feeding them. People think that cubs are like puppies that can be cradled, but that’s not the case at all. These animals are a great asset to parks because they look after rodents, ground hogs and injured birds. And should there be too many foxes in a given place, the City of Montreal will transfer them to another place, thanks to their wildlife management system.
