Ecological patrol vehicles at the SPVM
Officer Richard of station 13 involved in project
Since July, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (City of Montreal Police Service) has been using four new electricity-driven T3 Motion type cars. Officer Richard of LaSalle station 13 is one of the instructors who will be teaching police officers how to drive this special type of vehicle.
According to Claude Dauphin (Lachine Borough Mayor and president of the executive committee in charge of public security and also president of the Security Commission of the Agglomeration of Montreal), “this eco-energy shift blends well with our green plan and represents the concrete involvement of the City with respect to our environment and our community. It is to everyone’s interest to implement proactive and efficient measures to fight greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles running on gas, and to counter the effects of the stupendous increases in the price of gas.”
T3 Motion type vehicles are the new breed of highly performing electric cars from an ecological perspective. Designed particularly for use by police officers, these vehicles will be used in the metropolitan area by officers to patrol urban centres, especially for the purposes of monitoring large public parks and parking areas in Old Montreal. Business streets like St. Laurent Boulevard, St. Denis, Mont-Royal and others will also be patrolled when they are closed to traffic during popular festivities. These three-wheeled cars are 100% ecologically safe and fast.
Equipped with revolving lights, a siren and a flexible stretcher, this electric car can reach maximum speeds of 40 km/hour and can weave their way in difficult access lanes where crowds are thick and dense.
The four new T3 Motion vehicles do not release any greenhouse gases; it will cost 10 cents a day to run them.
