LaSalle asks for metro extension
Borough Council is requesting the Agence métropolitaine de transport to extend the metro in LaSalle until the borders of the Borough. A resolution to this effect was presented by Councillor Richard Deschamps during the council meeting last Monday.
The resolution mentioned that LaSalle has a population of 74,763 and close to 25,000 workers. Borough Council wants to encourage residents to use collective public transportation since 67% of LaSalle residents use their cars to go to work.
Councillor Deschamps’ resolution specified that public transportation service in LaSalle deserves special attention given the future major projects - such as the Honoré-Mercier Bridge and the Turcot Exchange – which will involve LaSalle’s major roads and streets. He pointed out that LaSalle has more than 1,300 companies and businesses and that it serves a supra local population at an institutional level covering Cégep André-Laurendeau, the Centre de formation professionnelle de la Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys (CIMME) and the LaSalle Hospital.
