Huge fire in Strathyre Street apartment building
Occupants from some 20 units displaced
Hundreds of firefighters and 25 vehicles battled a huge fire that broke out at about 3:00 Thursday morning, October 23 in a 48-unit building located in 165 Strathyre Street corner of Dalmany Street. No one was injured but damages were considerable and occupants from about 20 units were displaced.
These evacuees were taken in by the Red Cross team and Sun Youth because their dwellings were inhabitable. The fire, triggering five alerts, started on the third floor of the building. This floor sustained heavy damages; the roof was also damaged. The other apartments sustained water damages.
The incident is now in the hands of the City of Montreal Police Service; an investigation into the exact causes of the fire is underway.
