Liberal candidate Monique Jérôme-Forget inaugurates campaign office

During the March 26, 2007 elections, Monique Jérôme-Forget got 57.14% of the votes in Marguerite-Bourgeoys, a majority of 11,205 votes over her principal opponent, Martin Marquis of the ADQ party who obtained 18.92% of the votes. Pequist Siou Fan Houang was third, obtaining 16.02% of the votes.

Monique Jérôme-Forget was elected for the first time as a deputy for Marguerite-Bourgeoys during the November 30, 1998 elections, taking over the vacancy left by Liza Frulla who became a broadcaster for Radio-Canada. As the Liberals faced the opposition, she was finance spokesperson for the party from January 1999 to March 2003.

On April 14, 2003, she was re-elected as Jean Charest and his Liberals took power. Monique Jérôme-Forget was president of the Treasury Council from 2003 to 2007 and at the same time Minister in charge of Government Administration, and Minister in charge of the Montreal region.

She won a third mandate during the March 26, 2007 elections and became the “super Minister” of the Charest government when she inherited the positions of Minister of Finance, Minister of Government Administration and president of the Treasury Council.

A native of Montreal and married to Claude E. Forget (who is himself a former Liberal Minister), Monique Jérôme-Forget is a mother of two. She holds a Doctorate in Psychology but also studied Political Economics in the University of London and in Johns Hopkins University. She presided over the research institute in public policy and the institute of research in health and safety at the workplace. Moreover, she was president and director of the <@Ri:>Commission de la santé et de la sécurité au travail (CSST)<@$p:>. She held the position of Vice Rector for finance, institutional research and human resources at Concordia University.
