Véronique Farinacci does not shy away from challenges
Véronique Chadillon-Farinacci does not shy away from challenges. At the tender age of 18, she has just been appointed as president of the youth commission's executive committee for Union de Montréal, the political party headed by mayor Gérald Tremblay.
The appointment was made official during the Rendez-vous des jeunes 2007, organized by the Commission des jeunes de l'Union de Montréal on May 26 and bringing together more than 1,000 young party supporters at the École de technologie supérieure. "I would like to congratulate Véronique Farinacci and her team. Young people contribute to the issues that concern our political party and I'm very proud," stated mayor Tremblay.
The young LaSalle resident, who is the daughter of city councillor Alvaro Farinacci, is planning to do everything to live up to the new challenge. "What I want, more than anything, is to represent young people from all boroughs as effectively as possible," stated the new president, who hopes to increase the sense of belonging to Montreal in all young people.
Determination and passion
A graduate of Cégep de Saint-Laurent with a degree in Human Sciences, Véronique Farinacci will be attending university this coming fall, towards a degree in criminology. She has been part of the party's Commission des jeunes for the past three years and in charge of files, such as social development, culture and recreation. She has been interested in municipal politics from a young age. "We've obtained concrete results. We were the ones who demanded reduced student fares for public transit and we asked for an extension in operation hours for the metro's blue line. The Tremblay administration responded to our demands. I like working with municipal government because it's closest to people's everyday concerns. I am very motivated."
Ms. Farinacci's appointment must make her father proud. Alvaro Farinacci has been elected seven times in LaSalle, the first time being 1983. "I'm very proud of Véronique. She's very intelligent and talented. Despite her young age, she has already proven to be very active in LaSalle and Montreal.»
