Driver injures three and jumps in canal aqueduct
It was quite a scene at the corner of boulevard la Verendrye and Shevchenko, around 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 7. After hitting a vehicle at the corner of Chouinard and Thierry, a 29-year-old driver seriously injured three people when his car rammed into a taxi transporting two clients, one a young woman in her 20s who was severely hit in the head.
The suspect left his car and started yelling at the taxi driver, his passengers and a couple of witnesses on the scene. He then attempted to flee the scene by climbing a fence and jumping into the waters of the aqueduct canal. Firefighters arrived and saved him. The driver took a breathalyzer test and was found to be twice the legal limit.
The LaSalle resident will be charged with dangerous driving, driving under the influence and attempting to flee the scene. After appearing in court, he was released under very severe conditions, while awaiting trial.
