Courtney (middle of the girls) fought her way into the Bronze medal in Singles and the Silver medal in teams (with Rosalie Hiscock and Jade Thivierge of St-Zotique).
Golden Season for Courtney Troli
The Quebec Provincial Ten-Pin Bowling Championships was the stage for the triumphant finale of Courtney Troli’s breakout season.
The 12-year-old Lasalle resident was one of 240 athletes from 15 regions across Quebec who participated in the annual tournament organized by the Federation des Quilles du Quebec (FQQ). This year’s contest was disputed at Laurentien Lanes in Montreal from July 19 to 21. The athletes competed in three different events, one each per day: Teams, Mixed Doubles, and Singles. Paired with other athletes from their region when necessary, each bowler strived towards their best performance.
As a member of the Laval regional team, based at Centre de quilles 440 in Laval, Courtney was paired with Rosalie Hiscock of Laval and Karina Nicoll of Chateauguay (formerly of Lasalle) for the Teams event, and was paired with Dakota Delaronde of Lasalle for the Mixed Doubles event. Each format consists of three qualifying games with the top one-third of bowlers advancing into the finals.
The girls’ team fell victim to harsh lane conditions, and did not advance into the finals. Contrarily, for the Mixed Doubles event, Courtney and Dakota Delaronde did advance to the finals, with a combined pinfall score of 919. Despite a scoring infraction during the second game of the finals that involved the Rive-Sud and Laurentides teams, Courtney and Dakota remained focused, finishing the set of games with a 931 total pinfall, and winning the Silver medal in the process.
Gold
But it was the Singles event that proved to be the feather in Courtney’s cap. On the third day of the competition, with many athletes feeling the effects of mental and physical fatigue, Courtney claimed the last qualifying position to advance to the finals with a three-game total pinfall of 479.
Courtney started off the finals with a 198 game, putting her 27 pins ahead of the next nearest competitor. She followed that with a 174 game, and her lead on the field grew even larger. The final game was an untouchable 216, decisively earning her the Gold medal.
The Gold medal total pinfall of 588 (196 average) also earned Courtney a Canadian Tenpin Federation (CTF) national record for Highest Triple in the Bantam Girls category. Ironically, Courtney already holds the CTF national record for Highest Single, which was a single-game score of 254 that she achieved in a tournament in Chateauguay this past April.
This latest victory tops off an extraordinary season for Courtney, one which saw her win the Youth Bowling Canada (YBC) Provincial Championship in February and go on to compete in the YBC National Championship in Winnipeg in May.
