Cyclist struck by drunk driver without license
Around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, September 14, a 21-year-old cyclist was gravely injured when he was struck by an 18-year-old drunk driver who was driving without a license, on 1st Avenue, at the corner of Champlain boulevard.
The victim was thrown in the air and suffered fractures to both legs and in the head and was operated upon arrival at the hospital. The drunk driver attempted to flee, but was intercepted by police on Broadway Street, at the corner of 5th Avenue. He later failed an alcohol test and faces DUI charges and leaving the scene of an accident.
The 18-year-old driver was driving his father's car when he ended up on the wrong lane and drove into a parked vehicle. The cyclist found himself between the two cars and was violently thrown off his bike and onto the street.
