For Marguerite-Bourgeoys and Lester-B.-Pearson School Board
Monique Jérôme-Forget, MNA for Marguerite-Bourgeoys and Minister of Finance and Chair of the Conseil du trésor, announced that the amount of
1 6 31 388 $, for both Lester-B. Pearson and Marguerite-Bourgeoys school boards, is granted in accordance with the Homework assistance and Écoles en forme et en santé programs. The distribution is done as follows:
* Lester-B. Pearson school board: Homework assistance (503 535 $) et Écoles en forme et en santé (129 064 $)
* Marguerite-Bourgeoys school board: Homework assistance (818 186 $) et Écoles en forme et en santé (180 603 $).
"These grants will make it possible to upgrade the activities and services already offered to young people in order to promote their health, well-being and success in school," stated the MNA.
The Homework Assistance Program is for elementary school students. Its purpose is to support schools and school boards in their efforts to maintain students' interest in school and increase their motivation to do their homework. As concerns the Wellness-Oriented School Program, its objective is to encourage Elementary Cycle Three and Secondary Cycle One students to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and a balanced diet.
«In creating these programs in 2004, our government placed student health and success in school at the top of its priorities. More than ever, we are determined to provide the best tools for our students so that they can prepare for a successful future," Monique Jérôme-Forget said.
