Stefano Giliati signs up with Toronto Maple Leafs
LaSalle hockey player Stefano Giliati, who completed a superb hockey season with 40 goals and 47 passes with the MAINEiacs of Lewiston, was nominated to the first star team and signed a three-year contract with the Maple Leafs of Toronto.
The 5’11” and 205-pound left winger was assigned to the affiliate of the Leafs – the Marlies of Toronto in the American league and he will be with the team throughout the circuit’s series.
Maple Leafs managing director Cliff Fletcher pointed out that the Leafs admire not only the talents of skater Giliati but also his sense of combat. He met Cliff Fletcher and the trainers and also attended the Canadians-Leafs match in the press gallery.
During his junior career, he scored 94 goals and amassed 113 passes for a total of 207 points in 257 matches. He started playing hockey at age 4 with the MAGH programme before joining the Couguars of LaSalle where he continued his apprenticeship in the Novice A, Atome and Pee-Wee levels, before jumping to the Cobras of LaSalle-Verdun AA. He represented them for a season and then joined the Lions of Lac Saint-Louis Midget AAA when he was 14 years old.
