Andrew Willows wins Gold medal in Germany
LaSalle resident Andrew Willows and his teammate won the K-2 100 metre race during the second phase of the Speed Canoeing-Kayak World Cup in Duisbourg, Germany.
It was the third medal they won in many races and the second Gold medal for the two Canadian athletes. They won the 200 metre race and finished third in the 500 metre race in the previous week in Hungary. The Quebec duo was not expecting to win the Gold in the K-2 1000 m race.“We registered for this race just for fun. It isn’t our specialty. We prefer to concentrate on the 500 metre race. We’re sprinters. We were confident of our abilities to qualify for the Olympic Games in Peking. We developed great acceleration”, Andrew Willows of LaSalle said.
