The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (PJCCI) and the Quebec Transportation Minister will delay the closing of a southbound lane on Honoré-Mercier Bridge – a closing that was supposed to take place on July 2.
In the meantime, all lanes will remain open to traffic. The revised date for completing the works will be determined shortly and will be announced later. Note however that project completion is still scheduled for August 18.
Work will begin on a southbound lane from 3h00 to 12h00 during the week, and from 3h00 to 12h00 from Saturday through Monday. After that, repair work will commence on the northbound lane which will be done outside rush hour and will begin as soon as the work on the southbound lanes is finished.
This one time closing will allow for the work to intensify in line with the first phase of Contract A. The contractor, Mohawk Bridge Consortium (MBC), will replace 51 connection plates during the summer season which is a period where there is less traffic. To limit the consequences on traffic, these closings will apply to one lane per direction outside rush hour.
The repair work will be performed under the bridge so bridge users will not notice what’s going on. The kinds of repairs and their summer completion justify the method being used. Workers will take advantage of the next few weeks to complete the project as soon as possible, particularly on the plates that are scheduled for repair work. For more details,
