Seasonal public markets: producers and merchants will be waiting for you!

Supported by the Comité de sécurité alimentaire de LaSalle, the Conférence régionale des élus (CRÉ) and Nourrir Montréal, this initiative aims to promote, as much as possible, the consumption of locally-produced fruits, vegetables and other farm products by making them readily available to the public.

The regional spokespersons for the seasonal markets, LaSalle Borough Mayor Manon Barbe, singer Florence K, the project’s sponsor, and Jocelyn Ann Campbell, president of Nourrir Montréal, will attend.

So far, some 20 merchants and organisms have signed up for LaSalle’s public markets. They will be offering a vast variety of fresh products and services.

Just to give you an idea of what’s in store: Ferme Omer Charbonneau et fils, marché IGA Extra Beck, Parmalat (to offer dairy products), marché Frutta Si, boulangerie La Marchigiana, Ferme maraîchère Au bien frais, Jus Jugo Juice, and coffee maker Les Cafés Cinq Continents.

Others include La Bleuetière Rémillard de Franklin, honey producer Miel champêtre l’Érablière des Roy le Verger Labonté, biological farms Harmonie Terre, and tea maker “Tea with two.” They are all from the Montérégie region and will be offering their respective specialty products.

Collective gardens NutriCentre LaSalle will also be present to offer their locally harvested fruits and doing some cooking demonstrations.

The ACEF (Association coopérative d’économie familiale) of Montreal’s south west region will be on-site to discuss the family food budget and sharing some tips on how to save when shopping for food. Another merchant, the Guilde des tisserands, will be showing the public how to recycle old grocery bags by…weaving them!

Take the whole family when you shop for food at the open air public markets and take advantage of discounts and the season’s featured products on these Saturdays: August 23 and September 2o. Markets will be open from 9h to 13h. Go to the back of Centre Clément. It’s a date you can’t afford to miss!

A free shuttle service will be available to residents. Details will be announced soon. Residents can also use bus lines 113 and 116 to reach the market.
