Slow Down - School Zones
2008 safety campaign
Vacation time is over ! Hundreds of school children are heading for school, carrying their backpacks, to make new friends and start their new school year. That calls for even greater vigilance on the streets, not only on the part of youngsters but also on the part of motorists. Once again this year, to ensure everyone's safety, the borough of LaSalle, in cooperation with Ville de Montréal's police force, wants to make motorists aware of the importance of obeying the speed limit in school zones by holding a vast awareness campaign, with "Slow down!" as the theme.
A speed limit to heed
Very soon, large signs reminding you of the importance of maintaining a speed of 30 km/hr in school zones will be installed. The school zones are easy to identify, thanks to roadway markings, signs and posters promoting the awareness campaign. Since it is of the utmost importance that motorists obey the speed limit, police officers will be carrying out radar operations on a regular basis and will be distributing information to motorists.
Through this speed limit awareness campaign, the borough of LaSalle is aiming at optimizing the quality of life of school children and residents in school zones. During this back-to-school time, adopt good habits, carefully watch the signs and obey the speed limits. A child's life is priceless. Avoid the worst by driving slowly… and carefully!
