Lise Zarac, borough counselor and long-time LaSalle resident is seeking election as a Liberal in the federal riding of LaSalle-Émard. The previous Member of Parliament, former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, had earlier announced his intention to retire after twenty years in office.

Ms. Zarac has served as a municipal councilor since 2001, and emphasizes both the great deal accomplished and learned during that time. Her proudest accomplishment was developing the first family policy in LaSalle. Asked why she wishes to enter into the federal political fray she says that, “Making certain our federal government is acting in the interests of LaSalle-Émard’s citizens has always been my first priority.”

Culture, infrastrucuture and environment are areas of particular interest to Ms. Zarac. While in municipal council, she took a leading role in the cultural file. “I love the diversity of LaSalle-Émard. The different ethnic and religious communities give the area a unique cultural feel which benefits all residents,” says Ms. Zarac.

In explaining why she supports infrastructure development, Ms. Zarac holds that, “A good infrastructure helps improve the local economy not only by making things run more smoothly but also through attracting new business.”

Ms. Zarac feels particularly strongly about the environment, noting that her Liberal affiliation has much to do with the strong stance of the Liberal Party on the topic. “I want Canadians to understand that we must act now on the environment. Moreover, a healthy environment contributes to a healthy economy, and I think Canadians want both.” She pauses, and continues, “I’m here to do only my best to deliver both to LaSalle-Émard.
