Mayor Gérald Tremblay and Borough Mayor Manon Barbe welcome candidate Josée Troïlo with pleasure.
Mayor Gérald Tremblay supports candidate Josée Troïlo
Montreal Mayor and <@Ri:>Union Montréal<@$p:> leader Gérald Tremblay visited LaSalle on November 4 to support the candidacy of Josée Troïlo who will be representing this party during the December 14 partial election; she is running as Councillor for the Cecil-P.-Newman district.
In the office located in 1711Thierry Street, Mayor Tremblay and LaSalle Borough Mayor Manon Barbe were full of praise for Josée Troïlo. “Mrs Troïlo is a seasoned business woman, a woman who has been taking her community to heart for several years. With a talent for rigorous management and attention to the smallest detail for improving our quality of life, she will know how to best represent the people of this riding. She has full knowledge of key issues and is ready to serve her fellow-residents”, Mayor Gérald Tremblay said. Borough Mayor Manon Barbe was also proud. “This long time militant shares the same values and convictions that motivate us.”
Ready to face challenge
Josée Troïlo is honoured to have the confidence of Mayor Tremblay. “I would like to continue to build a safe Borough where strict management is the answer to our aspirations. I am happy to be a candidate in a team that has implemented innovative strategies that respect the environment and are firmly oriented towards the future.”
Mrs. Troïlo has been a LaSalle resident for the last 30 years and does business as a real estate building agent. “I am a professional and competent business woman and I’d like to become a professional and competent Councillor.” Has politics been her dream for a long time? “It was politics that came to me. Door-to-door campaigning will be my way of meeting people.” What does she think of her opponent Michael Vadacchino? “He’s a major opponent who can’t be taken lightly. He’s a gentleman and it will be a tight race. The team must work hard.”
And local taxes ?
With respect to the commitment of Benoit Labonté and <@Ri:>Vision Montréa<@$p:>l to abolish local taxes, Manon Barbe said: “Residents must be warned and promises must be delivered which I’m sure the candidates will do. If he wants to increase the fund transfers, where will the money come from? If more money will be given to boroughs, something’s got to give, and I’m not sure that this is do-able. It’s easy to make promises but he must explain where the money will come from for increasing such fund transfers.”
Gérald Tremblay added: “When Benoit Labonté was a member in the executive, he sat in the review committee responsible for generating savings of $300 million over a period of three years and to eliminate 1,000 jobs, 250 of which were executive positions. If he had wanted to increase transfers, he could have suggested it and explained to us how on one hand we could considerably reduce expenses and on the other hand increase the boroughs’ budgets. He had the opportunity to express his point of view but he preferred to leave instead of presenting to the public the precarious and fragile financial situation of the City. Before the situation re-stabilises, unachievable promises can’t be made. Manon Barbe said “The choice was made to improve our infrastructure and to maintain the buildings belonging to all LaSalle residents. If he wants to remove this tax, that means he is turning his back to the improvement of equipment. An election is never won in advance. The difficulty is to win the vote because often our supporters are there but they must be persuaded to go out and vote.”
