Construction of LaSalle’s eco-centre to start
Alan de Sousa, official in charge of sustainable development and of the environment in Montreal’s executive committee announced that a contract of $ 7,725,917.00 was granted to the Vespo Group to construct LaSalle’s eco-centre, decontaminate the soil and build an access road. Construction begins this summer and will open its doors to the public at the end of 2010.
Alan De Sousa said, “LaSalle residents will be able to take advantage of an eco-centre near their home. To offering the standard services of an eco-centre, this is the first to be equipped with an industrial recovery facility.”
Mayor Manon Barbe said, “LaSalle has been a leader in environmental initiatives. Twenty years ago, we were the first ones to implement a door-to-door selective collection on the island. This future eco-centre is part of our efforts to reduce the quantity of waste to be eliminated.”
The project will include an elevated ramp providing access to 12 containers that can take a variety of waste matters to be recycled or diverted in due time. Shelters for taking dangerous household waste, storing halocarbons and certain safety equipment as well as a re-using facility will be developed.
